The new laboratory completed along Teollisuuskatu in Harjavalta is a significant investment in the safety and functionality of the work environment. Based on the analyzes performed there, the entire copper and nickel production process is controlled.
With the new building, the laboratory premises expanded from the previous 700 m2 to 1700 m2. Visu Kaluste Oy was chosen as a supplier for both laboratory furniture and fume cupboards, and everything was carefully designed together with the Boliden staff to meet their needs.
There are total of more than 60 fume cupboards in the new premises. Each one is desingned and equipped precisely according to the new laboratory´s requirements. The adjacent photo shows the fume cupboards especially made for working with electrolytes.
Many different product and material solutions were implemented in this project. The picture shows low-level fume cupboards with polypropylene worktops and interior linings.
The overall delivery also included safety storage cabinets, some of them with customized solutions too.
One of the special features of the property are the customized hot plate fume cupboards with a separate bunsen burner extarctor and exhaust air duct scrubber. The fume cupboard was developed through a prototype in cooperation with the customer.
A chemical cabinet with the pull-out door is placed next to the fume cupboard.
All the fume cupboards in the laboratories are equipped with air ventilation control system installed by Fanison. The benefits of the easy-to-use system include improved user safety and significant energy savings when the exhaust air of the fume cupboards is controlled to match the actual need.

In the oven room, the worktop depth in the fume cupboards is almost a meter. Worktops of laboratory furniture are mainly acid- and chemical-resistant solid laminate.
All the furniture can be customized according to the VISULab system. The modularity enables furniture units to be moved, changed and added easily and quickly as the usage needs change.
